Applicant Becky Dragovich said her family lives on a quarter-acre lot, has a 6-year-old who will help care for the birds and intends to keep the flock in a large enclosed run. She said they planned Buff and Lavender Orpington breeds because they are friendly, cold-hardy and typically lay about 200 eggs per year. Dragovich said she has not raised chickens before but felt comfortable adding them to the household alongside existing pets.
Committee members asked about timing and containment; members expressed no objections after staff confirmed the application materials and site review. After a motion and second to vote, the committee recorded aye votes from Member Cole, Member Hance, Member Manglecock and Member Buscio. The motion passed and staff said they would be in touch regarding next steps.
