Cindy Knowlton, Mobile County extension director, told the commission on May 27 that the John Archer Agricultural Center is slated to reopen to staff and the public on Monday, June 2, after completion of roof repairs.
"We are slated to go back into the building next Monday, June 2 and so I've confirmed with our project manager with the county here this morning that everything's done with the roof and we're going in this afternoon and remove plastic and just get ready for janitorial crew to come in and clean," Knowlton said. She thanked county officials and partner organizations for support during the temporary relocation.
Knowlton said Extension staff had operated from other locations during repairs, including the marine extension and the Mobile County AM office. She added that county staff had already begun scheduling meetings for use of the auditorium.
Why it matters: The reopening restores a county facility used for extension programming, community meetings and agricultural education. Knowlton noted the center hosts outreach and educational events and thanked county staff for the renovation work.
The director invited residents to visit after the cleaning and scheduling is completed.
