Commission hears Westwood neighborhood plan presentation; staff says plan reflects community input

Ellen Sizer Ford of the planning department presented the Westwood neighborhood plan and described boundaries, the planning process and priority projects, and staff said the plan reflects extensive public engagement that began with a 2022 Montgomery County Land Bank planning grant.
Sizer Ford said common themes in the plan are gateways, streetscape, housing and public space. She highlighted a concept for the Hoover and Westwood intersection intended to calm traffic and improve pedestrian experience and noted ongoing and proposed improvements to Gettysburg Park. Sizer Ford said housing goals include preserving long‑term ownership, promoting energy‑sustainable practices and stabilizing property values.
Commissioners asked whether the planning team had letters of support; Sizer Ford said a petition and letters of support accompany the plan, including about 30 neighbors who signed a petition and a letter from Westwood Wright CDC and the neighborhood association.
Staff identified the decision options for the commission as concurring with the plan, remanding the case, or denying the request. The agenda shows a first reading resolution (No. 6870‑25) that concurs with adoption of the Westwood neighborhood plan; the plan will continue through the city’s legislative process.
