Supervisor Black reported widespread water-quality problems in the Lake Landor community over the Memorial Day weekend and urged the board to take formal action after receiving extensive resident reports and photographs.
Black said he had received images from several households showing water discoloration and impaired laundry and described a lack of company communication. "We had no communication from the company, until this afternoon," Black said. He told the board the problem lasted about 24 hours for him but longer for other residents, and he said the incident affected homes across both the Lake Landor and Heritage sides of the community.
County staff confirmed the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) will perform field tests on Thursday at various locations in Lake Landor. Black asked that staff prepare a letter on behalf of the Board of Supervisors to the State Corporation Commission, AquaVirginia and the Department of Health "explaining our complete displeasure on their lack of communication, lack of caring, and quality of what they are serving to the residents in Lake Landor," and requested staff include photographic evidence.
Planning/administrative staff (Chris McKenzie and others) said they would prepare a draft letter for Board review and obtain the photos and supporting materials. Black also requested copies be sent to state legislators and other jurisdictions that use Aqua service. VDH field testing was scheduled for Thursday, and staff said they would provide a draft letter for board review and signature.
No enforcement action was announced at the meeting; the board's action was to request staff prepare and circulate a letter documenting resident reports and requesting regulatory attention. VDH testing results and the company's response will guide next steps.
