Laredo utilities to start summer water museum exhibit and conservation camp to spotlight water projects

Interim Utilities Director Buzz Pischker and Water Museum curator Sheila Serna described work already under way to repair and update museum exhibits and to produce new videos showing technologies now used in Laredo — including robotic pipe inspection and new pipe‑replacement methods. Serna said five of the museum’s exhibits are already operational and that museum staff are preparing refreshed videos, a hands‑on water chemistry demonstration and an outdoor water‑table for young children.
Pischker told the council the museum work will be funded from the utilities enterprise fund, not from the general fund. He emphasized the outreach value: “We want people to see what we’re doing in pipe inspection, chlorine sampling and new replacement methods,” he said, adding that planned PIO outreach will highlight the construction timeline for the pipe‑bursting work.
Council members supported the concept and asked staff to develop a schedule for public programming, private tours and cost‑effective summer‑camp offerings. The council approved the item by motion; staff will return with program details and schedules.
