Resident urges support for hotel development on North Padre Island

He said his client plans to bring a Courtyard by Marriott franchise for one of the hotels and that, if the initial step succeeds, additional acreage on the Seawall could be developed with a Hilton or a full Marriott brand in the future. "We also need conference space, and this has a 5,000 square foot conference center between the 2 hotels that will be available to the public," Bell said. He said the Seawall has not seen hotel development in roughly 45 years and that the project would fill a local market need for conference space.
Bell said his client is an experienced hotel developer who works with major franchises and asked for the board's careful support of the proposal as it moves through the city's review process over the next two months. He did not identify the developer firm by name beyond referencing a client; no board action was taken during public comment.
