Commissioners renew interlocal road‑maintenance agreement with Village of Lushton, ask for annual review

The York County Board of Commissioners voted May 27 to approve an interlocal road‑maintenance agreement with the Village of Lushton that authorizes the county to provide gravel hauling, snow removal and other basic maintenance in exchange for Lushton’s highway allocation funds.
Harvey Keim, York County highway superintendent, told the board the agreement had existed previously but lapsed and was revived in part because Lushton’s new port prompted a review of responsibilities. Keim said the arrangement covers hauling gravel, some snow‑clearing and related work; he estimated Lushton’s highway allocation at roughly $8,000 last year.
Commissioners discussed the five‑year automatic review language in the draft agreement and said they preferred annual review so the contract is revisited more frequently. The board approved the agreement with a recommendation that Lushton review and sign it and with the county’s request that the agreement be reviewed annually.
The board’s motion passed on a roll‑call vote. Zoning administrator and highway staff will finalize the signed interlocal agreement and deliver it to the village for their signature.
