Human resources staff reported four new employees completed onboarding in April across different departments (jail, juvenile detention, trustee’s office and 9-1-1) and outlined ongoing recruitment activity in corrections, juvenile detention, EMS and other areas.
HR said it conducted onboarding, handled workers’ compensation and FMLA cases and recently participated in a Department of Labor conference call; the Department of Labor selected Bedford County to participate in a survey regarding job descriptions and salary schedules. HR staff scheduled a follow-up call and noted outreach and presentations done to local schools about public-sector human resources careers.
Why it matters Staffing and recruitment directly affect county operations, particularly public safety and detention services. The Department of Labor survey could provide comparative information about classifications and pay that informs future budget discussions.
Ending HR invited questions and noted it will continue to report recruitment and claims activity to commissioners as the budget process proceeds.
