CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charleston County Council approved $10,000 from council contingency to fund a summer enrichment program run by the Community Resource Center.
Councilman Boykin moved the allocation and listed conditions: an initial $1,000 payment directly to the Community Resource Center; the remaining $9,000 to be dispersed on a reimbursable basis for direct program costs; funds must be used only to support programs located within Charleston County; funding must be spent by Aug. 12, 2025; and the Community Development Department will administer the funds using existing guidelines and procedures. A council member seconded the motion and the council voted to approve the allocation.
During discussion the council and a speaker identified planned program activities and locations: four sites including the Town of Hollywood and community centers in North Charleston, meal provision, transportation, and admission costs for museum visits and similar outings were listed as eligible uses of the funding. Council asked that the uses be transparent to the public.
The motion passed on the floor; staff will administer the reimbursement process through the community development department.
