Solid waste staff reported that new recycling equipment purchased with a grant is installed at all convenience centers and that a new compactor at El Bethel replaced an aging unit.
Staff said mixed paper and news boxes and a glass collection box are now in service; attendants received training required for compliance. The meeting record shows recycling revenue for April at $22,009.26 and landfill disposal costs of $52,038.83, with 1,036.63 tons disposed — about 30 tons more than the previous month. Staff also reported a recent $8,257 deposit to the county’s tire recycling account and noted another deposit expected next month for tire-recycling funds.
Grant and reimbursement status Solid waste staff said the TDOT litter grant for fiscal year 25–26 in the amount of $51,900 had not been received at the time of the meeting; staff also said TDOT was behind on reimbursements and that documentation (canceled check copies) was being provided to TDEC to obtain reimbursements for grant purchases.
Operational notes Staff described efforts to close open purchase orders before fiscal year end, purchase of high-visibility T-shirts for center attendants funded by a litter grant, and routine safety and compliance training for attendants. The report included an anecdote about an unusual roadside pickup (a boat) and a note that attendants will help residents place items in the correct recycling stream if unsure.
Ending No formal action was taken; commissioners thanked staff and moved on to the next agenda item.
