County OKs up to $50,000 extension to landfill rock contract to complete tipper move

Cowlitz County public works staff won approval on Wednesday to spend up to $50,000 under the current StoreDoll contract for additional rock at the county landfill to finish road realignment and move landfill tippers.
Public Services Director Mike Moss told the Board of County Commissioners that the StoreDoll contract (current seasonal contract year runs July 1–June 30) has a $365,000 cap and the department is nearly at that limit. He said crews are realigning roads inside the landfill, relocating three tippers from one side of the site to the other and need additional rock this month to complete the work before the July 1 contract cycle begins.
Moss described the rock as material commonly used for road base in the fill (6-inch or 3-inch minus), and noted that some rock is repurposed within the landfill but material that is placed into the fill cannot be removed because it becomes contaminated and must remain in place.
Commissioners confirmed the additional spending is within the department’s overall budget and approved the request to expend up to $50,000 more under the current contract for June rock deliveries. Public works staff also said they increased tonnage in the recently issued request for proposals for the next contract year to provide more capacity going forward.
