Committee adjusts fee schedule language for portable stage use outside Wausau
Summary
The Finance Committee discussed and approved an addition to the city fee schedule so the portable stage and canopy incur higher charges when used outside Wausau to reflect additional labor and transport costs; staff cited the Balloon Fest’s move outside the city as an example.

The Wausau Finance Committee approved a change to the city fee schedule to clarify charges for the portable stage and stage canopy when those items are used outside city limits.
Eric, a city staff member, said the city has in recent years allowed the portable stage to be used outside the city and that the fee schedule should reflect additional labor and transportation costs when that occurs. "We want to encourage the use of that stage for events within the city. But outside the city, I think there's consideration should be made to increase those fees," he said, and noted that the Balloon Fest asked for use of the stage after moving to the Town of Stettin.
Committee members asked whether the proposed fees reflect true labor and transport costs. Eric said the figures in the packet were close to anticipated costs and that current in-city fees sometimes do not fully cover overtime or additional set-up expenses.
Alder Gisselman moved approval; Alder McElhinney seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote.
