Whitehouse joins regional Toll 49 Segment 6 environmental study as participating agency

The Whitehouse City Council voted May 27 to become a participating agency in the Northeast Texas Regional Mobility Authority’s environmental impact statement (EIS) for the proposed Toll 49 Segment 6.
City staff said participation carries no fiscal obligation but helps the regional mobility authority demonstrate agency coordination while studying several route alternatives that could affect local travel patterns and economic development.
Miss Black presented the mobility authority’s request and recommended participation. She told the council the EIS will examine multiple potential alignments so the authority can shift routing based on environmental findings. Council members said improved regional connectivity could benefit Whitehouse commuters and economic growth.
A council motion to join the study carried unanimously. Staff said the EIS will be a long process (planning documents cited construction starting as early as 2029) and that participation would allow the city to provide input as the mobility authority evaluates alternatives and potential local impacts.
