Mason County commissioners approve action agenda, including warrants, contracts and appointments

The Mason County Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve the action agenda, adopting routine warrants, contracts, infrastructure procurements and appointments while removing one item for separate discussion.

The motion to approve the action agenda passed by voice vote with all commissioners saying "aye." The commissioners removed item 8.9 — proposed amendments to Mason County Code chapter 5.18 on temporary outdoor public events — for separate discussion and later declined to set the hearing pending further language work.

Among the approvals: warrants numbered 8112680 through 8112814 in the amount of $1,592,010.92; an agreement with Evergreen Treatment Services to provide medication for opioid use disorder treatment in compliance with a Department of Justice settlement agreement; and authorization for the Public Works county engineer to advertise, set bid dates and award contract for culvert replacement projects on Lynch Road (CRP 2067) and Shelton Valley Road (CRP 2042).

The board approved a professional services contract with View Community Advisors Inc. to facilitate the five-year local homeless housing plan, covering May 1 through Dec. 31, 2025. Commissioners also approved an appointment of Dwayne Wilson to the Mason County Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) as a spender, term through May 31, 2027, and the appointments of Sandra Petrich and Roger Lewis to the Mason County Housing Authority Board for five-year terms expiring May 27, 2030.

The board approved memoranda of understanding with Teamsters Local 252 to add bilingual provisions for probation representatives, and with AFSCME Local 1504 to add range 24 to the 2023–2026 collective bargaining pay scale. The board accepted the hearing examiner’s recommendation to accept a right-of-way vacation (road vacation no. 422) subject to the conditions in the examiner’s findings and conclusions, with a staff-requested wording change from "grant" to "accept" reflected in the agenda.

Other routine items included acceptance of ownership of the Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statues and their trailers gifted by the Mason County Historical Society; setting public hearings related to Washington State Community Development Block Grant funds and supplemental 2025 budget requests for June 24; and approval of a resolution proclaiming the county’s commitment to reducing fatalities and serious-injury crashes on county roads.

Votes on agenda adoption and the listed approvals were conducted by voice; the minutes record unanimous approval on the recorded items. The board noted that item 8.16 had been stricken prior to the meeting and that item 8.9 would return for further work.
