Board approves extension of state $1,000 one‑time bonus to all Botetourt County school employees

The Botetourt County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously May 20 to approve additional appropriations to pay a state‑authorized one‑time bonus to school employees and to extend that bonus to all county school staff.
Miss Davis, the county finance representative, told the board the state authorized a one‑time $1,000 payment for Standards of Quality (SOQ)‑funded instructional positions and support staff, and that Botetourt County’s share to pay those SOQ positions is $491,008.64 from the state.
“Botetourt County Public Schools has additionally requested to extend this bonus to include all employees,” Davis said. Under the school division’s request, all full‑time school employees would receive $1,000 and part‑time employees would receive $500. Davis said the additional local appropriation required to extend the bonus to all employees is $336,503, bringing the total appropriation for fiscal year 2025 to $828,003.67.
Mr. Lee from the school administrative office was present for questions. There were none, and the board moved and seconded approval. “All in favor? Aye. Any opposed?” the chair asked; the motion carried.
The appropriation will be paid in June as described by state guidance and the county’s action; the board’s vote covered the funding appropriation only. No further action was recorded in the meeting about changes to payroll policy or ongoing compensation.
