Shelton to piggyback on Mason County equipment for summer pavement projects under new interlocal agreement
Summary
Council voted to place an interlocal agreement with Mason County on the June 3 agenda that would allow shared use of county equipment and crews for larger roadway projects, including planned paving in the West Mountain View area this summer.
Public Works Director Jay Harris asked the Shelton City Council to place an interlocal agreement (ILA) with Mason County on the June 3 action agenda that would allow the city to use county equipment, materials and personnel for larger roadway and utility projects.
Harris said the city has an existing ILA that covers small, short-duration projects but that the new proposed ILA would permit use of county hauling trucks, asphalt pumps, rollers and other heavy equipment for larger multi-day paving projects. The first project anticipated under the ILA is paving in the West Mountain View neighborhood later this summer.
Harris described a cooperative model in which Mason County provides large hauling and surfacing equipment while the city provides traffic control and some labor; he said the county has performed similar work for the city previously and that the new ILA formalizes larger-scale cooperation.
Council agreed to place Resolution 1386-0525 on the June 3 action agenda for formal authorization; no contract was signed May 20.
