Council to consider $674,000 federal grant design contract for three railroad crossing removals

Public Works Director Jay Harris told the Shelton City Council that the city received a federal grant in 2023 for approximately $674,000 to remove three railroad crossings and that staff recommend moving forward with a consultant for design services.
Harris said the grant covers design and construction for crossings at the SR 3 corridor (between Goldsboro Creek and Park Street), a Seventh Street crossing, and Holbrook Road (the entrance to Bridal Sand and Gravel). The city completed a formal RFQ and interview process; Pritit (consultant name in packet) was selected as the most qualified proposer and submitted a scope and cost estimate for design services.
Staff asked that the council place Resolution 1378-0425 on the June 3 action agenda so the city manager may enter into the design-services agreement; the goal is to complete design this year and advertise for construction bids in early spring next year.
