Students report concerts, trips and year-end events at Depew UFSD board meeting

Student representatives updated the Depew Union Free School District Board of Education on spring concerts, awards, trips and end-of-year ceremonies during the May 27 meeting.

At the high school, senior Gabby Redmond summarized recent music and school events: choir and band concerts in early May that recognized seniors, a Mr. DePhew show that named Jordan Symansky Mr. DePhew, and a band and choir trip to Toronto that included a performance and museum visits. The high school also listed upcoming senior breakfasts, banquets, proms, and concerts.

Depew Middle School sixth grader Jenna Durham reported on in‑school activities and assessments, including New York State math and science assessments, honors breakfasts for grade levels (90 sixth graders attended the sixth-grade breakfast, 59 in seventh and 53 in eighth), a spring fling dance, the Freedom in America assembly with an essay winner, and an upcoming eighth-grade overnight trip to Cedar Point.

Fifth grader Ryan Kachkowsky summarized elementary activities: completion of required New York State testing in grades 3–5, a band and chorus concert, kindergarten orientation, a sequence of spirit/theme days in June, a PTO Color Blast Dash and upcoming graduations and moving-up ceremonies.

Student board and other student reports later in the meeting included a note that the unified basketball team won a double-overtime sectional game and would play in a championship game on Thursday at 2:15 p.m. The board did not record additional debate on the student reports; the updates were informational.

The board thanked students for their presentations and noted the next regular board meeting would be June 17.
