The House Committee on Rules held a public hearing May 28, 2025, on Senate Concurrent Resolution 30, which designates April 10, 2025, as Purple Up Day in recognition of the Month of the Military Child and the contributions of military-connected children.
Katie Sutanovich, former Sergeant First Class and chief of staff to Senator Suzanne Weber, testified that military-connected children frequently are the only kids in their school communities experiencing parental deployments and that the resolution is intended to signal that the Legislature sees and supports these children. She cited a gubernatorial proclamation noting more than 7,000 children in Oregon connected to the military through a serving parent, and said communities without major military installations lack the concentrated support structures available on bases.
Vice Chair Drazen moved SCR 30 to the floor with a be-adopted recommendation; the motion passed on roll call. Representative Javity was recommended as the House carrier for the resolution. Committee staff indicated a revenue impact (as recorded in the work-session record), and the committee moved the resolution forward.
