The House Committee on Rules held a public hearing and work session May 28, 2025, on Senate Concurrent Resolution 13, which would designate the T-bone as Oregon’s official state steak. Multiple ranchers, industry representatives and legislators testified in favor.
Sen. Todd Nash and Rep. Greg Smith introduced and championed the resolution. Ranchers and industry advocates—Gabrielle Molinari Homer (Painted Hills Natural Beef), Diana Worth (Klamath County rancher and Oregon Cattlemen’s Association president-elect), and Morgan Crom (president, Oregon CattleWomen)—described cattle and beef production as a major agricultural commodity in Oregon and argued the designation would spotlight ranching and rural economies. Testimony emphasized that beef production is a top agricultural sector in Oregon and that the T-bone, which contains both strip and tenderloin cuts, symbolically represents the state's geographic diversity.
Vice Chair Draisen moved SCR 13 to the floor with a be-adopted recommendation. The motion passed on roll call; committee members noted the resolution is largely symbolic and intended to celebrate the statewide ranching community. Committee leadership named additional co-carriers Representative Mark Owens and Representative Ricky Ruiz following lobbying noted on the record.
