Staff reports: Corte Madera adopts revised street-tree list; town to consider letter opposing AB306

Town staff reported that the revised recommended street-tree list was adopted by the Corte Madera Town Council at its May 6 meeting and that the list will be used by homeowners and public-works staff for street-tree plantings and sidewalk projects.
Phoebe, the staff presenter, also informed the committee that staff plan to ask the Town Council on June 3 to authorize a letter opposing AB306, legislation described in the meeting as a bill that “would prohibit any updates to the state or local building codes for the next 8 years.” Staff told the committee the letter would be routed for mayoral signature on behalf of the town and that the stated intent of AB306 is to reduce construction costs and speed rebuilding, but staff said there is no evidence that freezing the code would have that effect.
Staff offered to send committee members further information about AB306 and said individuals could submit their own comments to legislative committees if they wished. The committee did not take a formal position during this meeting; staff indicated the matter will go to Town Council for consideration.
