Mayor proclaims June Public Transit Month; Valley Transit manager invites public to Mobility University

Mayor Norma L. Hernandez read a proclamation at the May 27 meeting recognizing June as Public Transit Month and presented it to Angie Peters, general manager of Valley Transit and a College Place resident.
The proclamation cited benefits of public transportation including job and service access, greenhouse-gas reductions, and Valley Transit’s zero-fare program. "June is Public Transit Month in the state of Washington," the mayor said during the reading. Peters thanked the council and invited residents to Mobility University at the Walla Walla TC on June 7 at 1 p.m. "It's going to be right at the TC… we'll have lots of fun activities and other community partners," Peters said.
Mayor Hernandez and council members praised Peters’ work on Valley Transit matters and noted that council members Sherman and Hernandez serve on the Valley Transit board. The office of the mayor will keep the proclamation on file and staff encouraged residents to consider transit for environmental and access benefits.
