She told the council she did not have a preference about serving as the permanent member or the alternate.
The second applicant, Frank Vaughn of 104 East Shore Drive, said he moved to Gun Barrel City five years ago and described prior local-government experience in Louisville, Texas, where he served on a community development block grant (CDBG) committee and worked with Texas Parks and Wildlife grant programs. Vaughn suggested seeking outside grants for parks and roads, saying, "There are grants and funds available if we go look and apply and try." He also described volunteer work with the American Red Cross disaster action team and the Commemorative Air Force youth flying program.
City Secretary Janet Nodgerhead clarified the openings during the interviews, saying there was one permanent vacancy and one alternate vacancy for the board referenced in the agenda materials. The council then agreed to move to a tabled work session to continue deliberations; no motion or vote to appoint either candidate was recorded in the public transcript.
