Commissioner Al French presents CRAB certificate of good practice for Spokane County roads

Commissioner Al French presented a County Road Administration Board certificate of good practice for Spokane County for the year 2024 at the Spokane County Board of County Commissioners’ May 27, 2025 legislative meeting and read the certificate’s text and statutory reference into the record.

Al French said the certificate had been transmitted to the state treasurer and quoted the authority named in the certificate as “RCW 36.78 0.09.” He told the board the certificate recognizes that the county complied with provisions of law relating to county road administration and with the standards of good practice formulated by the County Road Administration Board (CRAB). The certificate was described in the record as signed on behalf of CRAB chair Commissioner Rob Kaufman.

Kyle Tuig (appearing in the record as “Tewig” in one instance), identified in the meeting as county staff, thanked the commissioners and credited county staff and CRAB personnel for their work on maintaining the road network and on legislative advocacy. Tuig said CRAB had been a partner in keeping the county’s road assets maintained and safe and mentioned a recent legislative result establishing a local access road funding program, saying it is “not yet funded” but that it was a “huge win” out of the legislature this year.

Commissioner French noted in his remarks that Spokane County maintains 5,100 linear miles of roads and described that as the largest road system in the state. The presentation was ceremonial and informational; no formal board action on the certificate was recorded during the meeting.
