The Bedford County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to extend a 1.5% bonus — approved by the state for full-time state-supported local employees — to all full-time county employees, and to add a $250 bonus for eligible part-time employees.
County staff told the board the state-approved 1.5% bonus is based on employee salary as of June 30 and must be paid in July. Staff proposed extending the same full-time bonus to all county full-time employees and adding a $250 payment for part-time employees who work on a regularly scheduled basis; temporary, seasonal and substitute employees would be ineligible. To be eligible, employees must have been hired before April 1, 2025, and be employed on the bonus pay date.
Staff estimated the local cost of the proposal at approximately $415,000, with about $374,000 charged to the general fund. The board approved a reappropriation of excess FY25 revenues to cover the cost and adopted resolution R052725-04. Supervisor Tucker moved to adopt the resolution; Supervisor Parker seconded. The roll call recorded unanimous yes votes.
The pay date for the bonus was set for July 25. County staff will execute the reappropriation and process payments consistent with the eligibility criteria the board approved.
