Bedford supervisors adopt ordinance allowing state performance bonuses for local social-services staff

County Administrator Hiss told the board the Virginia Department of Social Services approached the county seeking an ordinance that would allow the state to provide bonuses to certain Medicaid- and Medicare-related employees whose performance meets state criteria, and that the program requires no local match. “What is before you is an addition to our county code that would authorize such a system,” Hiss said.
The ordinance (0052725-01) does not itself appropriate funds; Hiss said any disbursement would require a separate appropriation by the Board of Supervisors. The motion to adopt the ordinance was made by Supervisor Parker and seconded by Supervisor Tuck. Supervisors Johnson, Tuck, Bainsley, Parker, Sharp, Davis and the chair voted yes; the motion carried.
The board did not hear public comment on the ordinance. No questions or substantive amendments to the draft ordinance were recorded in the meeting transcript.
The ordinance authorizes the county to accept and implement the state program but leaves appropriation and detailed implementation to a later action by the board.
