Board told AIA contract for seven-classroom Doyle Elementary addition would be funded from reserves; approval to be considered at June meeting

District staff presented an industry-standard AIA contract and bid award for classroom additions at Doyle Elementary during the May 27 budget work session and asked the board to consider formal contract approval at its upcoming meeting.

Key points: the project would add seven classrooms and storage at Doyle Elementary. County procurement awarded the construction contract to Mid State Construction (Livingston) at a bid of approximately $1,740,000. Staff said the funds for the project would come from the district’s savings (fund balance) and that approving the contract at the Thursday meeting would give the contractor roughly two additional weeks to begin work ahead of the construction season.

Board members discussed site impacts and contingency planning. Staff described plans to reconfigure play and paved areas, add a walking track and work with local partners to preserve recreation space; they noted change orders would be handled under the contract’s contingency provisions and that subsurface review did not indicate major unexpected conditions.

No contract vote was taken at the May 27 session. Staff emphasized that the project would be funded from reserves and would not be paid from the general-purpose budget for 2025–26. The AIA contract and related documents were placed on the forthcoming meeting agenda for formal consideration.
