Education foundation announces grants, defibrillator purchases and scholarships

Chris, representing the Mill Creek Education Foundation (MEF), told the board the foundation had approved several grants and initiatives to support district students and staff.
Grants announced included funding for Asbury Elementary classroom books for grades 3–5 focused on inclusive language and diversity; Tracy Elementary received funds for family wellness night; Walnut Creek secured funding to bring national educator Molly Kennedy for professional development; and MEF secured grant funding and a corporate buy-down to purchase 10 fully automatic ZOLL automated external defibrillator (AED) packages with metal alarmed cabinets to be installed across district buildings as part of a heart-safe initiative. "MEF secured grant funding to purchase 10 fully automatic ZOLL automated external defibrillator plus packages and the metal cabinets with alarms that will be installed across various buildings within the district as part of a larger heart safe initiative," Chris said.
MEF said the corporate buy-down saved roughly $700 per AED device and more than $100 per cabinet; the total value of the products with shipping exceeds $25,000. The foundation also announced student-support grants from the Ehlers Piece of the Puzzle Fund for athletics and camps and said the United Way of Erie County will donate a book to every district kindergartner for the second year.
MEF announced two $1,000 Ashley Kuzma Memorial Resilience Scholarships to Eric McMahon and Christian Neubert and described upcoming fundraising events, including a golf tournament scheduled for June 26. The foundation asked district staff and families to consult the MEF website for application details, reunion information and event registration.
The board received the report as informational; no board action was required.
