Medina City Council approved an ordinance to solicit competitive bids and award a contract for the city’s concrete street repair program, and adopted an emergency clause to accelerate the schedule.
City Engineer Patton said the annual concrete panel replacement program is run citywide. He asked for an emergency clause because staff responsible for the program was on extended medical leave earlier in the year and the city is running late on the program schedule. Patton said the city wants to get bidding and construction underway as soon as possible.
Council voted to add the emergency clause and to adopt the ordinance; roll-call votes on the emergency clause and the ordinance were recorded as 7-0.
Why it matters: The emergency clause will allow the city to move quickly to bid and complete panel replacements across all four wards this construction season. Patton said panels across the city were identified for replacement and staff want to avoid further delay.
Council action and next steps: The engineering department will advertise for bids, receive proposals and return with a recommendation to award a contract. The emergency clause was adopted so the process can proceed immediately.
Ending: The program is annual; council authorized staff to proceed with bidding and construction once a contract is awarded.
