Medina City Council on Tuesday approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor to execute a donation agreement and bill of sale transferring the city’s interest in the interurban building to the Medina County Historical Society.
Law Director Hubert explained the ordinance provides the mayor authority to sign the donation agreement and the bill of sale that will transfer the city’s ownership interest. Brian Farrin, representing the Medina County Historical Society, told council the building will complement the society’s McDowell-Phillips House museum and support public education about local transportation history.
Why it matters: Farrin said the interurban station is an important local historical asset that will be preserved and interpreted by the historical society. He told council the facility “is gonna find a good home with good education to the public about the importance of our transportation history.”
Council action: Council moved, seconded and adopted Ordinance 106-25 on a roll call vote of 7-0. Farrin and others in the room thanked the city for facilitating the transfer.
Background and next steps: Hubert said the mayor will sign the donation agreement and bill of sale to effect the transfer. Farrin said the historical society will integrate the building into museum efforts and public programming; council did not set conditions beyond approval of the donation documents.
Ending: The transfer will allow the historical society to manage, restore and interpret the interurban building as part of county museum offerings.
