Ken Carter, a Bartlett resident, told the Board of Mayor and Aldermen that Davies Plantation Park lacks safe pedestrian access and that paths around the park are too narrow for safe bicycle use.
Carter said many times the parking lot fills with cars from outside the county and state, leaving no safe walking route without stepping into the roadway. He said he had been “run off the road on my bicycle numerous times, causing bodily injury many of those times” and described traffic on nearby streets regularly exceeding the speed limit, “many times up to 50 to 60 miles an hour.”
Carter said the interior park path is currently eight feet wide and asked the board to expand the inner track to 10 feet to allow bicycle access and a safer exercise corridor for neighbors who want to walk to the park. He told the board he understood budget funds were being considered to repave the trail because of erosion and deterioration and asked the board to use that opportunity to widen the path.
The board did not take formal action during the meeting; Carter asked the body to “accommodate all our citizens and create a safe space to recreate and exercise.”
