A staff presenter explained the change is part of House Bill 48, identified in the meeting as the Red Tape Reduction Act, which required extending observation/evaluation cycles for tenured staff. "We have taken all of our observation cycles or evaluation cycles from a 3 year cycle to a 5 year cycle," the presenter said while showing the revised handbook pages.
The board noted the non-tenured cycle remains unchanged and that the committee that reviewed the handbook included teachers and administrators. A motion to approve the certified evaluation handbook for 2025-26 passed on a recorded voice vote. Motion details recorded in the meeting: motion made by Mister Dorsey and seconded by Miss Thomas with the motion carrying 4 to 0.
The board also approved the classified evaluation handbook with a minor procedural change for staff at the Cardinal's Nest and aftercare: those staff will use state-mandated evaluation forms from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services rather than district forms, to avoid duplicative paperwork. That motion likewise passed 4 to 0.
