Meriwether County commissioners on May 20 approved the list of project categories to include in the county’s proposed 2026 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) package and scheduled a special joint meeting with municipal mayors to draft intergovernmental agreements.
Staff recommended the SPLOST list include: roads and transportation infrastructure; public works vehicles and equipment; sheriff’s office vehicles and equipment; public safety vehicles and equipment; county building renovations; recreation improvements; and information-technology upgrades. The board authorized the chair or vice chair to sign required documents for the county’s IGA packet.
Commissioners set a special call meeting for 4 p.m. June 9, 2025 to meet with municipal leaders and collect municipal project lists for inclusion in the county’s intergovernmental agreements. Staff will prepare draft IGAs based on municipal submissions and return them to the commission for approval.
