Meriwether County commissioners on May 20 rescinded an earlier hot-patch equipment approval and authorized purchase of a larger 4-ton, two-burner hot-patch combo trailer to support road maintenance.
At the prior meeting commissioners had approved a 4-ton, single-burner trailer tied to a trade-in allowance for the county’s existing patcher. Staff later reported supply delays and limited availability for the single-burner model; rental of a comparable two-burner unit would have cost about $7,500 per month with a 60-day lead time.
Public works staff recommended buying an in-stock 4-ton, two-burner combo trailer that includes additional features—an auxiliary heated tank, spare-tire kit, LED lighting and other accessories—rather than paying rental costs while waiting for the single-burner unit. The vendor offered a credit for trading in the county’s existing patcher, and staff said the older unit could remain useful as an emulsion storage tank if retained.
Commissioners approved the purchase at an all-in price of about $60,006 (after the vendor trade/credit and including accessories and a compactor), with staff noting the higher upfront cost would avoid high interim rental fees and deliver improved capacity. Public works also plans to procure associated saw blades and a pavement compactor as part of the package. The board directed staff to proceed with procurement and to report back on delivery and deployment.
