The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved resolution 102 on May 20 to continue contracts under the Human Services Development Fund (HSDF) for the fiscal year beginning July 1.
Kathy, from Lawrence County Social Services, said HSDF pays small contracts to local nonprofits and county programs that provide life-skills education, children’s advocacy, GED preparation and employment-readiness services. She named the county’s work on resumes, interviewing skills and “soft skills,” and said the fund “gets stretched a lot of different ways to fill in some needs in the community.”
Kathy noted the county has not finalized state budget figures; the resolution is written so contracts may proceed if the statewide funding picture changes. Commissioners moved and approved the resolution by roll call without substantive questions.
The board did not discuss specific per-contractor dollar amounts at the meeting; staff said final allocations will depend on the state appropriation and internal procurement processes.
