City staff asked the finance committee for guidance about camouflaging a generator at the marina that will be partly visible above planned vegetated screening.
Staff said the generator arrived in a factory yellow color and that a green trellis with vegetation will take several years to fill in. To reduce the visual impact in the short term, staff proposed either a vinyl wrap or painting in a neutral color that blends with the vegetation. Staff estimated the cost would likely be in the $6,000 to $8,000 range per location for a wrap or similar treatment.
Committee members expressed mixed views. Several members said they would prefer to defer additional aesthetic spending until the plaza and community event center design elements are finalized so the generator treatment can match the overall design. Others questioned spending public funds on a cosmetic treatment, noting the generator is behind a locked enclosure and will be partly screened by plants.
Staff said there is money available from the city hall project savings for a City Hall generator treatment if council chooses, and staff will obtain firm concepts and quotes and bring them to the full City Council. If the cost stays within the $6,000–$8,000 estimate, staff said they will place the item on the council agenda; if the cost exceeds that range, staff will separately flag it for additional council discussion.
