City seeks approval for fleet modifications: $9,000 to outfit facilities truck, reallocate savings to backhoe

City staff briefed the finance committee on planned equipment purchases and customizations for the facilities and public-works fleet.
Staff said the city budgeted to replace a facilities truck but that an additional $9,000 of outfitting is needed for a canopy, ladder rack and a bed slide that will turn the vehicle into a rolling inventory and tool platform for the new facilities/based parks maintenance position. “We worked really closely with Public Works and the utility team to identify the right truck for the Facilities Department,” staff said, and described the bed slide and organization options that reduce the need for staff to climb into the truck bed.
The committee was told that because the truck purchase and modifications exceed procurement thresholds in the city's policy (over $35,000), staff will seek committee support before placing orders. Staff said savings from the flatbed truck procurement and additional beginning fund balance in the Water Division will be used to cover the outfitting and that the flatbed came in about $20,000 under budget, allowing reallocation to a backhoe purchase.
No formal approval was recorded at the committee; staff said they will return with procurement documents and purchase orders and will adjust ER&R accounting as required.
