The Monongalia County Board of Education voted May 27 to adopt the proposed 2025–26 operating budget as presented by the superintendent, after a public hearing during which no members of the public spoke.
The superintendent recommended adoption and the board moved and seconded the motion; the board verbally approved the budget and the motion carried.
A board member who spoke during the vote period emphasized that the adopted budget underscores the need for voter support of the district’s upcoming excess levy. The board member said a summer program (referred to in the meeting as “summer avalanche”) is not funded in the 2025–26 budget and warned that continuation of similar programs will depend on levy approval. “If you want these educational opportunities … you will need to support the levy,” the board member said.
Board members thanked district staff for preparing the budget, and President/Board leadership acknowledged the superintendent and staff work in assembling the proposal. The meeting record shows the public hearing for the budget was opened and no one came forward to comment before the board proceeded to adoption.
