Council proclaims Emergency Medical Services Week, Building Safety Month and Public Works Week
Summary
Coos Bay City Council unanimously approved proclamations recognizing Emergency Medical Services Week (May 18–24, 2025), Building Safety Month (May 2025) and National Public Works Week (May 19–25, 2025).
Mayor Joe Benedetti read and the council adopted three proclamations recognizing local public-service professions. The council proclaimed May 18–24, 2025, as Emergency Medical Services Week, recognizing emergency medical personnel and Bay City ambulance services; the council then adopted a proclamation designating May 2025 as Building Safety Month to honor code officials and construction professionals; and the council adopted a proclamation recognizing National Public Works Week (May 19–25, 2025) and the contributions of public-works employees.
Kriston Beard from Bay Cities read the EMS Week proclamation and Amy Lender read the Building Safety Month proclamation. Geneva Vargas, engineering services coordinator, presented the Public Works Week proclamation and explained the week’s theme, “people, purpose and presence,” and the role of public-works staff in planning, building and operating infrastructure.
All three proclamations passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The council invited community participation in the observances and requested staff prepare appropriate proclamations for public posting.
