Board briefed on one-year extension of Benjamin Bus contract with 2% rate increase

Northfield School District staff told the board on May 27 that the district and its transportation vendor, Benjamin Bus, have agreed in principle to a one-year extension of the current transportation contract for the 2025–26 school year.
Staff said the extension would keep existing contract terms in place with a 2% increase to rates and give the district six months to complete discussions about routing, special-education routes and whether to add bus aides for students who need extra support. The staff presenter said the decision to extend for one year avoids rushing a new request-for-proposal this year and preserves continuity of service while negotiations continue.
Staff described the 2% increase as favorable compared with vendor increases reported by other districts. The one-year extension will come to the board as an action item at its June 9 meeting.
