Northfield School Board honors District Youth Council; students recap forums and outreach

The Northfield School Board on May 27 recognized the district’s District Youth Council (DYC) seniors and heard a DYC report on the group’s activities during the 2024–25 school year.
Board members presented certificates to seniors and thanked DYC members for serving as a bridge between students and district leadership. DYC co-chairs described priorities and activities the council led this year: hosting forums (including a candidate forum and a referendum information forum), distributing menstrual products at the high school, facilitating student input on the reimagine project and budget prioritization, and participating on core planning teams.
DYC reported it currently has 17 high-school members (grades 10–12) and anticipates growing to 19 members next year with two co-chairs. Student leaders said forums were a particularly effective way to share information with peers and that DYC produced pamphlets and social-media summaries to reach students and families. The council also said it provided ongoing updates to students about the reimagine project and helped lead conversations about planned budget reductions.
DYC noted longstanding menstrual-product distribution at the high school (started in 2018 with financial support from Northfield Youth Bank), and said it continues to supplement school supplies where restocking has been inconsistent. The student delegation told the board it planned to continue outreach, gather feedback during the reimagine construction process, and maintain annual events such as the school-board brunch.
Board members thanked the students for their service; several board members praised student presentations earlier in the year and encouraged continued student involvement. The DYC recognition and report were presented as an informational item; no board action was required.
