A legislative representative on the call, John, said tax revenue has been "relatively flat" and said legislators plan to be conservative with spending to avoid raising taxes. He also raised concerns about SNAP and Medicaid, including discussions about potential state or county supplements and looming work requirements for Medicaid recipients.
Board members received an update on a health fellowship program: Jeremy said the state signaled an extension without a fixed end date, and the county will provisionally allocate funds "just in case" until an official end date is provided. He noted that the amount covered by the state will likely decline over time, and county staff will refigure expenses and notify county administration and the legislature when a firm date is set.
The board had no formal vote related to the budget at the meeting; staff advised members that additional budget details will be presented after the July retreat and that changes could be made at that time.
