City to sign TxDOT railroad approaches agreement; council amends fire-protection interlocal to include new port property

Council authorized the city manager to execute an advanced funding agreement with TxDOT for signage and markings at railroad approaches, at no cost to the city, and approved an amendment to the existing interlocal agreement to extend fire protection services to newly acquired port property on Childers Road.
The Orange City Council on May 20 authorized the city manager to sign an advanced funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation rail division that will allow TxDOT to add signing, striping and pavement markings at railroad approaches citywide. City staff said the Federal Highway Administration will fund the project entirely, at no cost to the city.
Separately the council approved an amendment to the interlocal agreement with the Orange County Navigation and Port District to extend the city’s fire protection coverage to property the district recently acquired on Childers Road. City staff described the parcel as an old shipyard area that the port added to its holdings and said the amendment simply brings the new property under the existing fire-protection arrangement.
Both measures were approved on motions and recorded as carried by the council. City staff said the TxDOT agreement will proceed at federal expense and that the interlocal amendment formalizes coverage for a newly acquired port property.
