Committee participants said the commission is primarily an intake and filtering point: complaints come through the commission and are then funneled to the appropriate office. The committee expects to receive monthly information from the attorney and staff, subject to clearance from the council office.
One committee member asked whether the commission has a “major role” in investigations; the attorney and staff clarified that the commission does not have primary investigative authority but will receive results returned for the commission’s review. Staff said additional information would be provided to the committee on a monthly basis.
No formal policy changes or votes were taken. The committee said it will await the attorney’s follow-up and the council-office clearance before incorporating monthly updates into its agenda.
