Rowlett sets Wet Zone cooler rules, charges fees for larger coolers at water park

The Rowlett City Council on May 20 adopted a policy regulating coolers at the Wet Zone water park and amended the city’s master fee schedule to add cooler-pass fees.
Parks staff presented a draft policy that sets a 48-quart maximum cooler size, bans glass, alcohol and restaurant-prepared items, and requires coolers to fully close. The council approved resident and nonresident fees: a $5 per-day cooler pass or $25 season pass for residents; $10 per-day or $50 season pass for nonresidents (the nonresident season pass is equivalent to five visits). Staff said the restrictions are consistent with safety and food-service upgrades at the park and that the policy will help the facility manage concessions, health standards and crowding.
Councilmember Schoop moved to adopt the resolution implementing the policy and fee changes; Councilmember Reeves seconded. The motion passed 6-0.
Council members asked whether refillable water bottles would be allowed; staff said personal refillable bottles are not intended to be restricted. Staff also said the 48-quart limit is intended to be generous enough for a family while keeping the park footprints manageable.
Speakers included Parks & Recreation staff who drafted the policy.
