Staff said the center is intended for short placements (many elementary placements run about 45 days) and would be staffed with one teacher and one instructional aide to start, with curriculum and work coordinated by the students’ home schools. Oakleaf staff and administration have agreed to provide on‑site support and certain shared resources. The district described the center as focused on academic continuity, behavior modification and social‑skills instruction with the aim of returning students to their home schools successfully.
District leaders said typical usage has historically been low — an average of about 10 sixth graders per year over the prior three years — but they presented the center as a targeted solution for the structural change in grade alignment and as a way to streamline placement logistics.
