Fairhope City Council authorized the mayor to submit two FY2025 grant applications for projects at H.L. Sunny Callahan Airport.
The first authorization allows submission of a grant application to the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program for runway strengthening; the council noted 2.5% of the $6,900,000 project would be borne by the Fairhope Airport Authority and that the authority’s chair said funds were available. The mayor reported the airport authority had assured the city it has the local share.
The second resolution authorizes submission of a separate grant application for airport infrastructure improvements totaling $624,323. The meeting materials and council discussion said the Alabama Department of Transportation would contribute 75% and the airport authority would contribute 25% of that project cost; the council’s action authorizes submission only, not the expenditure of city funds.
Both motions to authorize grant submissions passed on voice votes. The council noted these actions permit the airport authority and city to pursue federal and state grant funding; any required local contribution or further council action would follow if grants are awarded.
