Committee approves easement to Verdi for access to renewable natural gas site at county solid waste facility

The Marathon County Human Resources, Finance and Property Committee approved an easement granting Verdi continued access to a parcel surrounded by the Marathon County Solid Waste Facility so the developer can complete financing and operate a renewable natural gas project.
County staff said the parcel is enclosed by solid waste facility parcels and that the easement would "enshrine their ability to access while that landfill gas purchase agreement and site lease agreement are in place." The easement would expire consistent with the underlying site lease and landfill gas purchase agreement, and it preserves reciprocal access for the county.
County counsel and the administrator reviewed the document and, in administration’s view, found no legal red flags. The easement also includes language allowing the county to change access routes if facility needs change, provided the county gives Verdi a new access route.
Chair Gibbs moved to approve the easement; Supervisor Hart seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote.
