The Chilton County Commission unanimously authorized staff to open and operate a small general store at Manuka Park that will sell toiletries and basic camping items.
Commissioner Perkins said the proposed store would occupy the existing office/conference center and was intended to provide “commodity items, a lot of toiletry stuff” for campers and visitors. “We’re not talking about building a Chevron up here. We’re just talking about putting in commodity items,” Perkins said. The motion to allow opening and operation of the general store passed unanimously.
Commissioners said groundwork remains—vendor accounts need to be set up and additional operational steps completed before the store opens. No new county budget appropriation or specific vendor contracts were reported during the meeting.
