Council approves repeal of redundant city code sections

The Missouri City Council on May 19 approved an ordinance to repeal multiple redundant or unused provisions of the Missouri City Code, the city attorney's office told the council.
A staff member with the city attorney's office said the ordinance would repeal, among other provisions, Section 2‑2 (procedures for certain economic development projects) because a 2023 ordinance supersedes it; subsection c of Section 2‑77 related to tagging; Sections 22‑31 through 22‑38 governing certain civil emergencies; Article 5 of Chapter 50 that creates a police reserve program that has not been used since the late 1990s; Section 58.138 on application software use while driving; Article 5 of Chapter 74 providing for a parks trust program now served by a parks foundation; and portions of Chapter 78 that address solid‑waste service levels provided by contract.
The staff member said this is the first of several code‑cleanup ordinances the city attorney's office will present. Council Member Clauser moved approval; Council Member Boney seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
